هو تحويل الأشياء المعنوية التي لا تُباع إلى سلع استهلاكية قابلة للتداول والمضاربة، كما يشير بالمعنى التجاري إلى عملية تحويل منتج أو خدمة ذات خصائص مميزة وفريدة ولها علامة تجارية، إلى سلعة قابلة للتداول كباقي السلع المماثلة من نفس الفئة بسعر يلائم جميع المستهلكين، وليصبح المنتج سلعة، يجب أن يكون قابلاً لإزالة الخصائص والاختلافات منه وأن يحمل بعض الصفات الأساسية، وأن يكون قابلاً للاستخدام دون الحاجة للمعالجة أو لإضافة أي تعديلات.
