Camille

Hi everyone,

I am a freelance translator, and on Friday I have been hired to participate to a transcription/subtitling project.

Since this is my very first experience in subtitling, the agency which launched this project recommended me to use Subtitle Edit, a free software (I have a Mac, maybe it can be important to know it).

I found it pretty easy to use, but when I tried to extract the .srt file, a window appeared and informed me that without paying for the complete version of the app, I would not be allowed to extract more than 20 subtitles. However, I already have 66 subtitles for just 8 minutes...

Do you know if it is worth paying for the complete version of Subtitle Edit (10,99€ only on the AppStore)? Or would you recommend other free or at least not too expensive softwares/apps?

I have to deliver the .srt file of the 53-minute video until Monday, May, the 27th, 17h (Paris time).

Thank you in advance for your help!

Camille

Coucou !

€11 is almost nothing! If you can't afford to spend €11 as a business expense on this job, then maybe your rate is too low. How much will you be getting for the entire job?

I have to deliver the .srt file of the 53-minute video until Monday, May, the 27th, 17h (Paris time).

There may be other tools out there that are cheaper than €11, but you may not be able to learn how to use them in time for your 5 PM deadline today.

Is it fairly easy to learn quickly?

Hey, sorry, I'm seeing this just now. So, AegiSub is pretty easy to use, but maybe I'm biased since it's the only one I know. The whole interface may seem old-fashioned I guess, but I find it simple and useful. That simplicity made it pretty fast to learn back then. I'm sure there are better softwares, but I'd say yes, it's fairly easy to learn.
