Article 5. Confidentiality
Members shall respect clients’ legitimate interests with respect to confidentiality, and shall therefore treat as confidential any information they acquire in the course of practising their profession.
They shall not make use of such information for their personal benefit.
Any information that is published by the client or that comes into the public domain other than through the translator, copy-editor or interpreter shall not be considered confidential information. Also excluded is any information that the client authorises the member to use for legitimate purposes, that does not conflict with the client’s interests and that does not infringe applicable legislation.
A member may be released from this confidentiality obligation in the interests of crime prevention.
