English to French: Children of the mist
Source text - English 17 avril 1975, Pol Pot, Saloth Sar being his real name, took Phnom Penh under siege using the revolutionary communist movement of the "Khmer rouges". In only 2 days, more than 2 million people were evacuated from the capital and forced to work in the fields. Pol Pot refuses all modernism, obliging the new peasants to work with their hands. For almost 4 years, the Khmers Rouges rein with terror, executing the intellectuals and urbanists of the country without hesitation and burning all literature and art. The borders are lined with antipersonnel landmines of which many remain today, killing and maiming hundreds of victims a year.
The children of these forgotten families have no choice but to sell goods they make or buy at the market to tourists. They don't enjoy "hassling" tourists, but they have no choice and are out on the beach or the streets when not at school.

As a teacher I can say that words are, indeed, important but translation is not only about words. Translation is about sensitivity and understanding. Since every language has a different way to express a situation, we also need to understand how the native speakers think.
I don't read in minds but my numerous travelling experiences help me to catch the message underneath.
