Presupun că termenul de "netting"apare în acelaşi text în care ai întâlnit şi "settlement". În general, am întâlnit aceşti doi termeni în domeniul plăţilor. "Netting" şi "clearing" înseamnă cam acelaşi lucru. Prin "netting" se calculează poziţiile nete pe care mai multe părţi le au una faţă de cealaltă - poziţie netă multilaterală (adică totalul obligaţiilor - de plată - pe care le au una faţă de cealaltă, în urma stingerii obligaţiilor reciproce) sau bilaterală - şi care pot fi debitoare, creditoare sau zero, evident. După ce s-a calculat această poziţie, are loc "clearingul", care înseamnă transmiterea instrucţiunilor de plată (către participanţii la "netuirea" respectivă) şi, pe baza acestor instrucţiuni, are loc decontarea, respectiv creditarea sau debitarea conturilor participanţilor respectivi.
