Yahweh Sabbaoth

Sabbaoth: “Translated as host(s) saba' means army(ies). … Yahweh of Hosts is a special name for God. Yahweh and 'elohim occur with seba'ot some 285 times. … Yahweh Sabbaoth appears for the first time in 1 Samuel 1:3…. Its origin appears to have been at the close of the period of the judges and in the vicinity of the sanctuary Shiloh, where the ark of the covenant was housed. The ark itself symbolized Yahweh's rulership; for he is declared to be enthroned between the cherubim (1Sam 4:4; cf, Psa 99:1). This name certainly contains the affirmation that Yahweh is the true head of Israel's armies” (TWOT).

What did David understand about Yahweh Sabbaoth when he addressed Goliath in 1 Samuel 17:45?
David understood that God was the head of the Israelites army and Goliath’s taunts were therefore directed at Him. It was not so much that God was on their side as they were on God’s side, in the land that God had given to them, and He was sovereign and powerful enough to protect them. This point seemed to have escaped Saul and the army, but David understood this out of a personal relationship with God and the knowledge of their history.

It designates God as the regnant God (Psalm 103:19-21), the enthroned God whose royal decrees will carry the day (Isa 14:24; Jer 25:27)” (Elwell).

What prerogative is closely associated with the name Yahweh Sabbaoth in the following verses?
Isaiah 5:16

These verses emphasize God’s prerogative to judge and that His judgment is holy and righteous and against those who refuse to join Him. “The title underscores God's presence, but also the force behind divine decisions affecting political history (Isa 19:12, 17; Jer 50:31)” (Elwell).

Pasajul meu de tradus este "O Lord of hosts, God of Israel, that dwelleth between the cherubims, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; thou hast made heaven and earth."
